Pros

  • When used for a simple purpose, it works quite well.
  • Testing showed that the proxy from Tuxler did a good job at hiding your identity.
  • The interface of layout of Tuxler are intuitive and easy to understand.

Cons

  • Many of the proxies don't work.
  • You have a 10 MB data transfer limit.

Tuxler, one of the fairly simple apps that will install independently on your browser, will also let you change your IP address to other countries so that you can browse what might be blocked in your country. For example, China blocks Facebook, and you won't be able to use it unless you have protected your privacy through Tuxler. A proxy hands you valuable access to the sites that have been blocked within your current country.

Long Installation Process

While Tuxler is a fairly simple-to-understand application, it doesn't have a simple installation process, and it can take you some time to complete. However, after you have installed the application, everything seems of smooth sailing after that point. The shortcut gets added to your desktop, and it will also appear in your dock. After you have had Tuxler running for a while, it will display the IP address, and it will also compile a list of your proxies from the other countries. You can switch this at any time if the need arises. All you have to do is click, "Switch IP," which you will find near the top right hand corner.

Frustrating at Times

You may feel frustrated occasionally because of how the proxies on Tuxler will often be made unavailable unless you have clicked on the upgrade. Even if you do manage to connect to one of these applications, you will have a limited 10 MB of data transfer, which means watching Hulu or the BBC iPlayer will be out of the question with Tuxler, unless you plan to upgrade. In truth, you have better proxies out there that offer a lot more, and when it works, it does a better job.

Used for a Simple Purpose

Sometimes people only want a proxy like Tuxler because it helps them to protect their identity. If that's all that you need it for, then Tuxler will probably help you to keep your identity private. When we tested the proxies from Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands, we found that it was plenty sufficient. Like with all proxies, one of the things that you have to understand is how they can be painstakingly slow. It depends on the time because a number of factors can influence this. For example, the proxy may be located too far from you, which will slow it down.

Tuxler will function with any browser, but the biggest limitations like 10 MB of data transfer and the lack of working proxies has threatened to make the free version virtually unusable. Even if you only want the free version, you can probably find better free options out there like Securefor.com and Hide.me proxy.
